While studying, I used every free moment to explore my journalistic passions. Having lived in Paris for half a year working as a fashion assistant, I'm taken by all things art, fashion and French, as you'll see from my projects below.
I enjoyed co-hosting a podcast called Dressed Up with a friend who also studied French and lived in Paris with me. We broadcasted live weekly on Burst Radio and discussed the intersection between politics, fashion and popular culture. A recent topic of conversation was the trad wife resurgence in outfits seen at Trump's inauguration and its possible implications for the future.
For half a year, I studied in Toulouse, where I came across an anonymous street artist who installs thought-provoking red sculptures in the middle of the night. His style reminded me of Banksy, so I got in contact with him and encouraged him to install his art in Bristol. I translated his thoughts about the sculptures into English and put together a press release to distribute to local newspapers and I covered the story for Bristol 24/7, securing my first byline in a regional newspaper. There were a few hiccups - I received a WhatsApp in the early hours of the morning asking if I knew where to find a taller ladder so that he could install his sculpture on Turbo Island- his was one metre too short. Luckily, it all worked out!
I was assigned Editor-in-Chief for the University newsletter written in French. Excited by the responsibility, I developed the newsletter into an arts and culture magazine written by 15 talented contributors. I designed the page layout and commissioned a fantastic student illustrator to enliven its pages. I thoroughly enjoyed the creative freedom.
